FORT SMITH (KFSM) - A group of local sixth graders from Fairview Elementary School made gifts on Thursday (Dec.17) in area hospitals.

The kids filled up cheer bags so that's why they can brighten someone's day when they deliver the bags on Christmas morning.

This project has been a tradition at Fairview Elementary School for ten years. Lisa Sellers who is an art teacher at Fairview Elementary School started the project. Sellers started it after her own mother was sick in the hospital during the holiday season. "I think every year they're hurting people in the hospitals and they're not able to go home on Christmas," said Sellers. She adds, "we've really made a lot of people's day by doing this."

Almost thirty sixth graders stuffed the cheer bags with activity books, lip balm, a stuffed animal, and oranges. The students created an assembly line and took turns putting each item into the bags.

The cheer bags will be delivered next week by the students on Christmas morning. Both patients at Sparks and Mercy hospitals will be receiving the gifts.
