SPRINGDALE (KFSM)-- Hundreds of kids at George Elementary had a Christmas stocking to take home, thanks to the community coming together.

Principal Annette Freeman said over 90% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. She said 660 students received a Christmas gift they likely wouldn't have gotten at home.

"It's just so special to see the community come together and see the happiness in the children's eyes," Freeman said.

The items in the stockings were bought by teachers, Cross Pointe Church, the George family and many other sponsors. Teacher Cymbree Lee said they wanted to spread the joy of Christmas.

"I have had kids in the past that have nothing for Christmas," Lee said, " As long as they get to take home something, they know that they are cared for we love them, and and we would give them anything that we have."

Friday (Dec. 18) was the last day for students in Springdale School District. They will return to school on Jan. 5.
