OZARK (KFSM) -- Wakarusa organizers announced on their Facebook page that the music festival will not return to Mulberry Mountain in 2016. The explanation on their website listed a disagreement between partners.
"Wakarusa was significantly damaged by partners claiming to share our vision. Sadly, they lied. They are being dealt with appropriately through the legal system. Further, we have found that the universe is often much more effective in dealing with these perpetrators than the legal system. Regardless, it is our sincere hope and anticipation that what we have built together - we will once again enjoy on our beloved and magical mountain."
As the news spread to city Leaders in Ozark they were disappointed.
"A lot of our locals actually work up there for jobs. So it will impact the city of Ozark," said Ozark Mayor T.R. Mcnutt.
The festival is estimated to pump over $1 million into the local economy. Some business owners say they depend on the extra money.
"Probably about $4,000 extra that weekend," said restaurant owner Tammie Wilson. Wilson used to own a restaurant in Ozark and planned for the extra business every year. She just re-opened another restaurant called Tammie's and said she was shocked to hear Wakarusa would not be returning in 2016.
Executive Director of the Ozark Chamber of Commerce Linda Millsap said she has received some good news about another music festival.
"They went ahead and announced that at the end of June there would be this Highberry Festival. From what I understand it will be jazz bands and things," said Millsap.
The Highberry Music Festival is a music and arts festival that will be held on Mulberry Mountain June 30 - July 4.
