FORT SMITH  (KFSM)–  On Christmas Day Evangel Temple in Fort Smith hosted a free dinner for those who would have been otherwise alone for the holiday.

More than 500 people showed up to share a meal together. Volunteers from the church helped fill plates and keep drinks full.

The volunteers also handed out cold weather items like gloves, scarves, coats, shoes and toys to kids.

“We got to pray with them and meet their needs and hook them up with people that are needing a job. We were finding places. We have people who are here needing someone to talk to,” said volunteer Dino Hutchings.

“Yes they needed someone to talk to. I found those people in there myself,” said volunteer Edna Conas.

The dinner has been held at Evangel Temple on Christmas for more than 20 years. Volunteers said 2015 was bigger than any year in the past.
