FORT SMITH (KFSM)-- OK Foods helped out families all over the state by donating thousands of pounds of food to local foods banks.

40-thousand pounds of chicken was donated to Feeding America food banks like the River Valley Regional Food Bank and the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.

Ted Clemons is the director of the River Valley Regional Food Bank. He said the donations came just in time for the holidays.

“It really made a big impact for our Christmas, since we had all the turkeys for Thanksgiving, didn't really have any protein for Christmas, so a lot of families got a lot of chicken for the holidays, which was nice,” Clemons said.

Jordan Johnson, the spokesman for OK Foods, said the company’s goal is simply to help the community.

“We are the worst state in the country for food insecurity for seniors, and so ok foods is trying to do their part to help out the communities in which they serve,” Johnson said.

Johnson said he hopes this food will also help people affected by the recent flooding.

“This flooding is horrific , and I know ir affects thousands and thousands of Arkansans, people in Oklahoma and throughout the Midwest, and so hopefully some of this food can go to them, the people who need it most as well,” Johnson said.

However, Clemons said there haven't been any requests for food from flood victims.

“Considering how high the Arkansas River is and the Poteau River and some of the other rivers locally, you know, it's really surprising,” Clemons said.

Clemons said they want to help any of the flood victims they can. If you are a victim of the floods, you can contact the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank at (479) 872-8774 or the River Valley Regional Food Bank at (479) 785-0582.
