MOFFETT (KFSM) --  Tuesday (Dec 29) emergency crews in Moffett Oklahoma warned residents to leave their homes because of flood water.

The evacuation was voluntary.

"It hasn't been too bad. People have cooperated. The ones who left left. The ones who wanted to they left," said Lee Massey with the Moffett Fire Department.

On Wednesday as the water continued to rise, due to the level of the Arkansas River, members of the Moffett Police Department had to shovel out several inches of water from their building. The police chief and others built a make shift dam with rail road ties and rocks to change the flow of the water, directing it around the building.

The school parking lot and playground were under water but as of Wednesday (Dec 30) the water hadn't reached the front door. Sand bags were put out to keep water from entering the entrances.

The small town sits right off of the Arkansas River and as the levels change Moffett officials said they will continue to monitor through the Army Corps. No word yet on when people will be able to return to their homes.
