FORT SMITH (KFSM) --  The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs opened a new office in Fort Smith.

The office is located in the State Building on Garrison Avenue inside of the Department of Workforce Services. It marks the opening of one of eight offices across Arkansas. Before the opening of this ADVA office veterans would have to drive to Little Rock.

"We're bringing these county services to you so you don't have to drive 150 miles to north Little Rock," said ADVA director Matt Snead.

The office in Fort Smith will be headed by Eric Siddons, a 27-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

The offices will service veterans and their dependents by connecting them to private and public services at the local, state and federal level.

One other office was also opened inside of the Department and Workforce Services building in Fayetteville.
