The trial for the Fort Smith man charged in the killing of Brent Morrison has been scheduled.

John Suleski, 25, will have his trial heard on March 7, 2016. His plea deadline has been set for February 22, 2016.

He remains behind bars at the Sebastian County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. Suleski has been charged with first-degree murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle.

The Fort Smith Police Department received a call on the morning of July 11, 2015 that a man was down in the street near Wells Lake Road. When officers arrived to the scene, they found Morrison dead with gunshot wounds, police said.

Detectives spoke with witnesses in the area and Suleski who was also on the scene, police said. At the end of the detectives’ interview with Suleski, police said he was placed under arrest.

In an interview with police, Suleski said marital and financial difficulties were weighing heavily on him.

Suleski said he felt that if he shot someone, his pain would go away, but it did not, according to the report later released. He returned to his vehicle and thought about shooting himself after the incident, but a man pulled up to the area after noticing Morrison’s body in the road.
