The overall pattern is for cold weather over the next week with few small chances for snow and one much stronger system next week.
The snow chances look meager for the next few systems with only limited accumulation possible and many places won’t see any snow. The biggest system of them all will arrive towards the end of next week with a greater potential for rain for everyone and possibly more of a widespread snow event.
Here are the highlights and the timing of each system:
- Thursday Night/Friday AM
- Saturday Flurries
- Monday Light Snow
- Thursday Strong System
Late Thursday/Friday AM
The system moving across the area on Thursday night is weak. It doesn’t have access to the deep Gulf moisture and upper level winds are weak.
6PM Thursday: Spotty showers are possible late Thursday with rain after sunset.
12-1AM Friday: Best chance for rain will be during the night-time hours late Thursday into Friday morning.
9AM Friday: Nearly all of the rain has exited to the east.
Saturday Flurries
Saturday’s system is a little stronger and will usher in very cold air but it doesn’t have much moisture to work with so overall snow chances remain low but highest from Fort Smith and SW Arkansas and SE Oklahoma.
Here’s a look at the best chances for snow on Saturday evening. It’s mostly in the Ouachitas. At most 2″ would be possible across the higher terrain.
Monday Light Snow
Another system Monday will be capable of light snow or flurries in the area. Moisture continues to remain limited but there should be enough lift for some light pockets of snow during the first part of the day. Accumulations could remain limited.
This is Monday morning, light snow or flurries will be possible across the area.
Thursday Strong System
I think this is the next big system that will affect our area. It should arrive on or around Thursday January 21st. Too early to know for sure, but I believe rain and snow could both be a possibility.
Stay tuned!!!
