Fort Smith Bar Owners Arrested On Suspicion Of Illegal Gambling

FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Two Fort Smith bar owners are facing charges of keeping a gambling house Tuesday (Feb. 2) following an investigation by the police department.

Fort Smith police received complaints of illegal gambling at bars in the city in December 2015, according to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs.

The Street Crimes Unit and Arkansas Beverage Control agents traced the illegal gambling to Grand Central Station on Zero Street and Ava's at Fianna on Jenny Lind Road, Grubbs said.

Grand Central Station owner Jerry Ladd and Ava's at Fianna owner Ava Milam are each facing a charge of keeping a gambling house, which is a Class D felony, according to police.

Investigators found gambling machines, proceeds and other evidence related to gambling at both establishments, Grubbs said.

The ABC is expected to file a number of violations on each bar in the coming days, according to Grubbs.
