(FAYETTEVILLE ) KFSM -- Students in Fayetteville will soon be able to take classes without having to leave the comfort of their own home.
They will be able to do this by learning in a virtual classroom, which is the first of it's kind for the state of Arkansas.
These classes are designed for students who are home schooled and need to bridge the gap between them and the community.
With the virtual academy, students can take classes at their own pace. This can be useful for students with special needs who may struggle with the speed of traditional classes. It can also be beneficial for elite athletes or musicians who want to accelerate their learning or have flexible schedules.
"Many parents are excited," said Joanna Lever, the director of Fayetteville's virtual academy. "They're excited about the support that they're going to get as home schooling parents and they feel like this is something that's been needed for several years."
By 2020 the school hopes to have 500 students enrolled from kindergarten through 12th grade.
