JOHNSON COUNTY (KFSM) — Another group wants its county officials to put the legalizing of alcohol sales up for a vote.
A day after a Crawford County campaign launched its initiative, the Johnson County committee “Keep Our Dollars in Johnson County” stated that allowing alcohol sales would not only give local residents more options, but would be a major boost to the local economy, according to a release.
“By remaining a ‘dry’ county, every year we send large amounts of revenue to surrounding communities,” campaign chairwoman Susan Edens said. “That’s money that could stay right here in Johnson County, helping to fund vital services for our citizens.”
The release stated that state law requires valid signatures from 38 percent of the county’s registered voters in order to be placed on the November 2016 ballot. Those signatures must be turned in to the county clerk by early July, according to the release.
In the release, Clarksville Alderman Danna Schneider said that the issue has not been on the ballot since 1935.
