OKMULGEE COUNTY, Okla. (KFSM) -- A deputy with the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office shot and killed a murder suspect from Sequoyah County Wednesday (Feb. 3), according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The deputy killed John Neuman, 53, of Gore who was charged with second-degree murder in connection to the beating death of his wife at a home in Sequoyah County, OSBI said.

On Wednesday afternoon, a driver called 911 in Okmulgee County after coming across a one-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer rig at the Deep Fork Wildlife pond, according to OSBI. Neuman would not come out and was giving conflicting information about how many people were inside the truck's cab, OSBI said.

When a deputy told Neuman to get out of the cab, Neuman raised a gun and began shooting at those at the scene, so the deputy returned fire hitting him, according to OSBI.

Neuman fell from the truck into the pond and when crews went to rescue him he began shooting again, so the deputy once again returned fire, OSBI said. Neuman died at the scene, according to OSBI.

Neuman was wearing an ankle monitor for the murder of his wife, OSBI said.

Sequoyah County deputies found Tanya Neuman, 50, unresponsive at the home in May 2015, according to the sheriff's office. The woman had died from what appears to be blunt force trauma, Sheriff Ron Lockhart said.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy on Neuman's body and the district attorney will determine if the shooting was justified once OSBI agents complete their report.
