Lady Lions Taking A Leap Forward

The Gravette Lady Lions have turned things around in the 2015-2016 season after struggling the past three seasons

GRAVETTE (KFSM) - It's been a rocky road for the Gravette girls over the past few years, especially for the seniors. But, their final year with the Lions has been a drastically different story.

"This group of seniors, they've had some tough times," coach Will Pittman said. "They've been through some ups and downs, some things that were just beyond their control. I've been real proud of them because in this day and age, when things get tough they quit, or people quite when things get tough. They have not. That's one thing about them, there's no quit in them at all."

Last season the Lady Lions went winless during the regular season. Gravette had won just 12 games over the past three seasons, a win total they’ve matched this season alone.

"My freshman year we didn't win any games, we won two games," senior guard Jaye Chalk said. "Last season we won one game in the district tournament."

Revamped team chemistry is what they say has been a big key to their success. That's one thing the Gravette veterans hope to leave behind.

"Some of the younger girls in junior high are really good teammates. We just hope they don't quit along the way. That they stick it out, because in the end it will be worth it," Chalk said.

Friday night their challenges continue as they face one of the top teams as Huntsville comes to town.
