LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — Residents of several Arkansas counties will be eligible for disaster aid after President Obama’s disaster request approval.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson had submitted a disaster declaration on January 27 for several counties following the severe weather in December 2015 through January 2016.

President Obama approved the request, allowing residents and government bodies in particular areas who meet certain criteria to apply for assistance, according to a release from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.

The release stated that public assistance (PA) for emergency work and repair/replacement of disaster-damaged facilities will be available for all 32 counties requested by the state: Benton, Boone, Bradley, Calhoun, Carroll, Clay, Crawford, Dallas, Drew, Franklin, Greene, Independence, Izard, Lawrence, Little River, Logan, Madison, Marion, Mississippi, Montgomery, Ouachita, Perry, Pike, Polk, Randolph, Scott, Searcy, Stone, Washington, White, Woodruff, and Yell Counties.

Additionally, Individual Assistance (IA) for individuals and households will be available for residents of 11 of the 19 counties requested by the state including: Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Faulkner, Jackson, Jefferson, Lee, Little River, Perry, Sebastian, and Sevier Counties.

The ADEM will announce plans to open offices in the affected areas soon, the release stated.

Initial reports estimated flood damages to be more than $17 million from the severe weather.
