SPRINGDALE (KFSM)-- Local police departments are keeping a close eye on the roads Sunday (Feb. 7) as Super Bowl 50 celebrations wrap up.

Springdale Officer Rick Olcott said some officers will specifically be looking for drivers acting reckless.

"That's all they do," Olcott said "They drive around all night looking for DWI's, if somebody calls in a driver they'll go to that."

He said with 16 officers on duty in a town of 70,000, they need citizen's help to call in anything suspicious.

"If you see a driver that you believe to be intoxicated or driving around recklessly, carelessly, call it in and that way we have a heads up like 'hey their might be somebody in this area' and we can go look for him," Olcott said.

Olcott said at the end of the day, it's all about saving lives.

"Somebody's dad, somebody's mom, somebody's son, brother, sister that can be in that other car that gets hit," Olcott said. "That's not a knock on the door you want to get at two in the morning."

He said some of the officers who will be on DWI duty overnight Sunday (Feb. 7) will be paid by a federal grant that aims to cut down on drunk drivers.
