Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Fort Smith Businesses

FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Fort Smith police officers and crews with the Fort Smith fire department responded to a car accident involving a suspected drunk driver, Wednesday, (Feb. 10) at the intersection of Greenwood and Rogers Avenue.

20-year-old Elias Cloud was arrested on the scene.  Police tell 5NEWS that Cloud is in custody on suspicion of DWI and careless driving. His photo has not been released at this time.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. after a driver crashed near the Cricket Wireless store, police said. According to police, Cloud appeared to be intoxicated.

There was damage done to the store building as well as the Hardee's restaurant, police said. Both businesses were closed at the time of the crash and police said the owners have been contacted.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.  No injuries were reported.

Cloud is being held on a $1,000 bond and will have his first court appearance on Tuesday (Feb. 16).
