Eagles Josh Berard Scores Record-Setting 60 Points

Former Northside Grizzly sets University of Ozarks scoring record

CLARKSVILLE (KFSM)- University of the Ozarks junior guard put on a shooting clinic against Concordia University Texas Monday night scoring 60-points total in their 144-114 loss.

Fort Smith native and Northside high school alum Josh Berard was the leading scorer while he was a Grizzly, and now as a University of the Ozarks Eagle he just shattered records scoring 60-points in a single game.

"He always plays hard and always plays well," said head coach David Ferrell.  "The ball just ended up in his hands and he was hot, he threw a lot of free throws he threw a lot of fouls and he hit 21 free throws out of the 60 points. So we always expect him and the team to play well."

"I was just out there trying to get the win," said Josh Berard humbly on the high amount of points he scored. "My teammates, they found me in the right spots and I got in sort of a zone and I wasn't missing."

Berard's 60 points against Concordia is not only the most in a single game this season for DIII-Men's Basketball, but also the most on any college level and in the NBA. Sacramento Kings Demarcus Cousins is four-away with 56 points.

"I had no idea about that until somebody told me," said Berard on finding out that he set a national record. "It's just real huge to be listed up there with guys like Demarcus Cousins and Buddy Hield for Oklahoma it's just a great accomplishment.

With only four regular season games left, Josh plans to continue to bring the same energy from this past game into the remainder of the season.

"I got into a groove where I was attacking the rim," said Berard. "That help[ed me last game so I'm going to try to go into this next game and attack to bucket

The Eagles will host East Texas Baptist University at home Thursday Feb. 11th.
