FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The Fort Smith Post Office has reopened Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 10) after a “suspicious item” was found earlier today.
The post office was put on lock down when a package was found face down in the parking lot on South 74th Street Wednesday afternoon. Officers roped off the area where the item was and then x-rayed the box.
Officers said there was rubber foam inside the package, which contained nothing dangerous.
The postmaster said it is their protocol to call police when they see a package that no one knows about. Police just decided to keep people out of the building as a precautionary measure, officers said.
