LOWELL (KFSM) -- The Interstate 49 lane expansion project between Fayetteville and Bella Vista has been altering the way traffic runs through the corridor for two year, but the end is in sight.
The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said the expansion from four to six lanes is scheduled to be complete by Fall 2016.
"I'm looking forward to it being done," driver Trudy Ozmag said Thursday (Feb. 12). "It was a headache before it started and it's a headache now."
Currently, only small portions of the interstate are open to three lanes, so at rush hour drivers can expect traffic to bottle neck in places where the three lanes merge back to two.
"I always stay in the right lane because if you're in the left [lane] people don't let you over," Ozmag said.
Cherry Martinez doesn't particularly like the areas where the interstate merges to two lanes either, but said the inconvenience is just a part of growth and that's a good thing.
"You got to get through this to get to the good," she said. "I'm looking forward to when it's all three lanes."
