ALMA (KFSM) -- A woman died Thursday morning (Feb. 18) when a fire broke out at her home in Alma, according to her family.

Family said Connie Yearwood died in the Locust Street home and her husband, James Yearwood, was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. The couple was in their 50s.

"They loved each other so much," one neighbor said.

Some neighbors said they tried to get Connie Yearwood out of the house, but the fire was too much. They said James Yearwood was able to get out alive, but suffered burn injuries.

Connie Yearwood had trouble getting around after she was hit by a vehicle while walking down a road a few years back, her family said.

The fire started around 6:30 a.m. in the bedroom, but the cause is still under investigation, according to the Alma Fire Department.
