FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — Fayetteville police identified the suspect and victim who were involved in a shooting Thursday night (Feb. 18).

Officers were called to Morgan Manor Apartments on School Avenue around 7:25 p.m. after receiving a call about a shooting, according to an arrest report.

At the scene, they found Zach Barringer had been shot and a witness described the suspect and his direction of travel, the report states.

Officers located suspect Hakeem Tico Palmer, 21, near 15th Street and Morningside Drive, according to the report.

The witness told officers Palmer was upset with Barringer because he didn’t pick Palmer up from work, so Palmer had to walk several miles home, the report states. According to the witness, Palmer gave Barringer $10 to pick him up and felt he should get his money back, according to the report.

The witness saw Palmer go into Barringer’s residence, heard several gunshots and then saw him run out of the residence while firing a gunshot into the air yelling “I should shoot you too,” the report states.

The witness found Barringer, who had been shot at least once, and he was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.

Police also interviewed Barringer’s girlfriend who told them Palmer was her cousin and he followed her to the residence to confront Barringer, the report states.

Investigators found the gun used in the attack in a culvert near a daycare playground, according to the report.

Palmer is being held at the Washington County Detention Center and is facing charges of first-degree battery, aggravated assault and terroristic threatening, jail records show. Officers have requested a high bond for Palmer.
