BENTONVILLE (KFSM) -- A new photography exhibit begins this weekend at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.
The Open Road: Photography and the American Road Trip will be on display Feb. 27 through May 30 and includes more than 100 images by 19 photographers from the 1950s to 2014.
The exhibit presents the story of the American road as inspiration, including iconic elements like roadside motels, Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Route 66, the Pacific Coast Highway and theme parks.
Photographers featured in The Open Road include Robert Frank, Ed Ruscha, Garry Winogrand, Inge Morath, William Eggleston, Lee Friedlander, Joel Meyerowitz, Jacob Holdt, Stephen Shore, Bernard Plossu, Victor Burgin, Joel Sternfeld, Alec Soth, Todd Hido, Shinya Fujiwara, Ryan McGinley, Justine Kurland, and Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs.
"We decided to show bodies of work, important bodies of work, that have been made on the road with more depth so you really get to see what someone photographed over a long period of time and a number of works rather than just a survey of America by road," Denise Wolff, Senior Editor at the Aperture Foundation, said.
The Aperture Foundation organized the exhibit.
While admission to the museum's main collection is free, general admission to The Open Road exhibit will cost $10. Crystal Bridges members and children under 18 get in for free. Admission will also be free Thursday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m.
