SPRINGDALE (KFSM) -- Leap Day only comes around every four years, meaning that people born on the day have some interesting birthday celebrations.

Many parents are excited to have a baby born on a leap year. When their birthdays do roll around, the celebrations are extra special.

Greg Reiter, OB/GYN surgeon at Creekside Center for Women, said the reaction from most parents is positive.

He's been an OB/GYN for 25 years and has delivered several leap year babies. In general, he said people are just excited to have a baby being born. So when a child is born on a leap year, it makes it even more exciting for most parents.

Nevertheless, he said there are some parents who postpone their delivery, if they can, so that their child is not born on a leap day.

"I do have some parents that do not want to have a baby on leap year. They don't want that negative part of just having a birthday every four years, or the kids not knowing what day to celebrate their birthday on," Reiter said. "So I have had some patients want to avoid that day."

Doctors at Creekside deliver more than 200 babies a month. They said this year has been exceptionally busy compared to last year, and the extra day is only making it busier.
