FORT SMITH (KFSM)-- The 14th annual Grape Escapes wine tasting event was held Friday (March 4) at the Fort Smith Convention Center.

There were 375 different types of wine to taste and food catered from 15 restaurants.

“As soon as you step in the door you've got wine and food all around,” event chairman Chris Stec said. “You can taste your way, toast your way around the room, and have a good time.”

Stec said ticket sales and sponsorships raised some of the money for the evening, but the live and silent auction helped with the majority, with all proceeds going toward a good cause.

“This is for Bost Inc.,” Stec said. “Their mission is to improve the quality of life for our community with developmental and physical disabilities, so they can live, work and play in the community.”

5NEWS' Daren Bobb was the emcee of the event, which sold more than 500 tickets at $100 each.

“It's a nice opportunity to be able to participate in something different,” attendee Kim Lander said. “There's a live auction as well as silent and it's really nice to able to help support a community organization that helps here in Fort Smith.”

She said many attend the Grape Escapes for the entertainment value, they know it also about helping give back.

“In my opinion, I think it's important that everyone in the community helps others,” Lander said. “We can't better ourselves if we're not willing to help out other people.”

Last year’s event raised more than $100,000, and Stec said they expect to have raised even more this year.
