OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — An Oklahoma bill making it’s way through the state senate would abolish abortion in the state of Oklahoma.

According to SB 1118 anyone who performs an abortion would be considered a criminal, guilty of first degree murder.

State Senator Joseph Silk authored the bill, which passed committee recently.

The first degree murder penalty was actually added after the bill passed out of the Health and Human Services Committee.

“Life begins at conception,” Silk said. “Those human embryos deserve every bit of protection as a one-year-old child.”

However, the bill is now stuck, held up by republican leadership at the Oklahoma State Capitol.

Silk is shocked members of his own party are standing with Planned Parenthood and against SB 1118.

Republican Senate leadership has so far refused to let SB 1118 be heard on the senate floor.

“It’s still being stopped, which is very very frustrating,” Silk said.

If SB 1118 becomes law, abortion providers will face first degree murder charges.

Senate leadership told Silk his bill goes too far.

“Are you really pro-life if you can actually come out and oppose this bill for no reason?” Silk said. “Don’t say you’re pro-life and you believe life begins at conception if you are willing to allow 6,000 lives being murdered in Oklahoma every year.”

Supporters are very vocal on their Facebook page.

“A lot of legislators in Oklahoma don’t trust women,” said Democratic Representative Emily Virgin. “They don’t trust women and their doctors to make those very tough decisions.”

Democrats, Planned Parenthood and a number of pro-life groups are standing against SB 1118 because it is extreme and it targets families who use in-vitro fertilization to conceive.

At one point in time slavery was legal but I’m sure most of us would agree that was wrong. And it was a hard battle to correct it because of greed, convenience, selfishness, and power but as a country the right people/leaders stood up and did what was right and we changed it because although it was legal it wasn’t right and it turned out TO BE a violation of the constitution, why? because “” WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF-EVIDENT THAT ALL MEN WERE CREATED EQUAL WITH CERTAIN UNALIENABLE RIGHTS”” etc….. And news flash. . . . . . .This country has made mistakes before and when the supreme court legalised abortion it just might be their biggest one yet. Abortion is the intentional killing of a human life I mean come on put your pride, selfishness, and ego down for a minute and just consider it. Research the science of embryology and see what they call “life” in the womb I’m not being rude or trying to start a fight I’m being sincere please consider this, if a person is ok with abortion then they should be all for slavery too. Because if you think a baby is less human then you and don’t deserve the same right to life as you, you are just as bad as the plantation owner whipping a field full of slaves.

Good to see it finally called what it is, hopefully this will get passed and start a movement.

Listen baby killer, pretty sure they can pass whatever laws they want to pass. Now it may not hold up, but at least somebody is doing something to save a life. Unfortunately for us your mother didn’t believe in abortion, bet you are probably pretty thankful for that aren’t you?

I don’t understand laws like these. If God is so great, why not let him stop the “murder” of these zygotes? Is it because, on some level, those supporting laws like these realize there is no such thing as the God they claim to believe in?

How can you report on a bill like this that is clearly unconstitutional and not mention Roe v. Wade or constitutional law in general?

The country is falling down around our ears, climate change is racing us towards another extinction but the GOP has laser focused on regulating and suppressing womens’ bodies. They cannot be bothered with the poisoned children who are still alive, no thanks to the GOP, or taking care that people aren’t killed when another bridge collapses or that their own constituents are living on the streets or even trying to reign in oppressive police and keep the death toll from gun violence down. No all of those are asides to the GOP, because the are ready to spend their entire careers obsessing over other womens’ vaginas and sex lives. I don’t think they realize just how creepy and puritan they are. They haven’t done one thing for this country that the majority of Americans say they want for at least 7 years because they can’t pull their head out from between womens’ legs. So the rest of the country will just have to wait until they have gotten tired of talking about women parts and sex that we just keep having. It could be a while because these toe rags are like dogs with a bone.

Some of the things, that you say, I agree with and some I disagree with. I’m neither Democrat nor Republican. I believe that the GOP can do better on the issues that you raise but I also believe that abortion is immoral and it is the killing of an innocent human life.

Yes Putredvigil, if you kill someone you should be prepared for the same fate. This includes abortion doctors. An innocent unborn child who has no voice in whether he/she lives or dies is a little bit different than a thug with a gun killing a store clerk over $100 out of the register. The thug has a choice, but I know common sense is hard for people like you to process.

I’m sorry you must of had a bad experience with some “so called” Christians in your time maybe a bunch, but just like if i had a some nasty history with some mean ol’buddhists it would show my ignorance to rant against every buddhists just because their buddhists right? And you might want to study up on the definition of terrorist. There are some actual Christians out there and their pretty good company but like the rest of us they ain’t perfect.

Why not go all the way and proscribe the death penalty for abortion? That’ll demonstrate how REALLY pro-life this guy is, right? Six thousand abortions, and over six thousand executions, every year. Because surely you would be prosecuting (and executing) the women who got the abortions as well the doctors who performed them, and anyone else who assisted. If the boyfriend pays for the abortion, for example, he’s also guilty, so execute him too. Same thing if the parents of a nineteen-year old girl who’s been raped pay for aborting the fetus that resulted from the rape. Execute all three of them! Go for it!
