FORT SMITH (KFSM) - St. Patrick's Day is just days away but celebrations are starting early this weekend in both Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. Hundreds of people will be on Garrison Avenue in Fort Smith on Saturday (March 11) wearing all things green.

It's the third and the final year that the Fort Smith Fire Department will put this celebration on. Every year they've made it a fun and family atmosphere. Parade goers will line up on Garrison Avenue and watch the parade starting on 13th Street all the way to 6th Street near the Oklahoma border.

They want to remind drivers on Saturday afternoon that downtown Fort Smith will be crowded and streets will be closed. Fort Smith Police will have barriers up throughout the area. They will be blocking off 13th Street through 6th Street between Garrison Avenue and "A"Street.

With more than forty entries the parade will last about an hour. Folks will see a little of everything including the dandies and pageant winners.

The parade in Fort Smith will get underway at 3:00 p.m. Fort Smith Fire Department said they will have the parade either in the rain or shine.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade in Northwest Arkansas will take place in downtown Eureka Springs starting at 2:00 p.m.
