Multiple Tornadoes Reported Sunday; Storms Damage Two Prisons

LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — Surveyors from the National Weather Service will be visiting several Arkansas counties Monday (March 14) after reports of three to five tornadoes touching down Sunday evening.

The Associated Press is reporting the NWS will go to Winfield in Scott County, where several homes were damaged, Mount Ida in Montgomery County, where the storms damaged docks at the Mountain Harbor Resort and Spa, and Grady in Lincoln County.

Two state prison facilities were also damaged during the severe weather.

The Ouachita River Unit in Malvern reported the storms broke more than 100 windows and skylights in the facility, but there were no injuries to staff or inmates and the damage is not affecting daily functions.

The Delta Regional Unit in Dermott reported roof damage and damage to the gymnasium and several utility buildings. On correctional officer suffered minor injuries. No inmates were injured. The facility also reports the damage has not affected daily functions.

Storm damage was also reported in Arkansas, Desha, Howard, Lee, Garland, Jefferson, Monroe, Nevada, Phillips, Pulaski and Union Counties.
