POCOLA (KFSM) - Nowadays folks are always looking for ways to save money especially when it comes to their bills. City leaders in one River Valley town said homeowners could soon see a change in their insurance rates.

Residents living in Pocola will see savings in their insurance rates very soon and it's all because they have a great team of firefighters.

Pocola Fire Chief Wesley Riggs said that they're now at ISO rating three, but back in 2010 they were at five. ISO stands for Insurance Service Organization, this a group that evaluates fire departments based on several factors. This includes the amount of water the department can get to a fire, and the amount and quality of their equipment.

ISO gives insurance companies a system to base their insurance premiums. The Pocola Fire Department qualified for all of those aspects. This helps residents because the lower the fire departments ISO rating the lower the insurance rate for residents.

"I was told for every class there's a five percent saving so going from a class five to a class three.. each homeowner in Pocola should start in July see a reduction in their premiums of their homeowner insurance," said Pocola Fire Chief Wesley Riggs.

Riggs said that this will save homeowners that live in Pocola hundreds of dollars a year.

City leaders said that the better rating is because of all the hard work put in by the fire department with help from the city's water department.
