South Carolina Slams Arkansas In SEC Opener

Gamecocks score eight runs in the first two innings before holding off Arkansas’ rally

COLUMBIA, S.C. (KFSM) – Dominic Taccolini had been masterful through the first month of the season but his start Friday night in the SEC opener was not.

The Arkansas right hander allowed eight earn runs through the first two innings and South Carolina then hung on for a 10-6 win.

South Carolina (18-2, 1-0) plated five runs in the first inning while they tacked on three more in the second. Taccolini followed by throwing four scoreless innings but the damage was too great for Arkansas (15-4, 0-1) to overcome.

Carson Shaddy added to his team lead in RBI as he drove in three after going 3-for-4 while both Tucker Pennell and Luke Bonfield homered. Bonfield’s two-run blast in the 8th inning cut the gap to 9-6 before the Gamecocks added and insurance run in the bottom half of the inning.
