LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — The first black female to serve with the Arkansas State Police has died.

According to ASP, Sergeant Morstine Willoughby passed away on March 13 after a brief illness. She was buried Saturday (March 19) with services in North Little Rock.

The Arkansas State Police stated on its Facebook page:

“Sgt. Willoughby made history, as the first black female to serve the citizens of the state of Arkansas with the Arkansas State Police. She broke barriers when she was hired in 1979, and made a lasting impact until her retirement in 2012.

Please keep the Willoughby Family in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.”
