FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — Employees are returning to work in the Fayetteville Federal Building, which was evacuated on Monday (March 28) following a “disturbance” on the Fayetteville square.

Sgt. Craig Stout said the building was evacuated after a man suggested that there may be a bomb inside his car, parked near the building. Streets in the area were also shut down.

The man started making a disturbance around the Terra Tots store on the square, breaking one of the store windows. Police followed the man, who was driving, and pulled him over near the Federal Building. The man asked where the federal building was, and when asked why, told officers, “You’ll find out.”

Stout said the man made a vague threat that there was something inside his vehicle, which prompted them to take precautionary measures.

The building was evacuated and the streets from Mountain Street to College Avenue around the square are shut down.

The University of Arkansas bomb dogs and Bentonville bomb squad responded.

The man was taken into custody.
