FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - A psychology professor at the University of Arkansas ended his two-day stint  on the popular game show, Jeopardy, on Monday (March 28).

Dr. Doug Behrend, chairman of the Psychology Department, described his appearance as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"It was exhilarating and exciting and again, the thrill of a lifetime," said Behrend.

The process to get onto the show was actually started about a year ago, according to Behrend, who said it had always been a dream to one day be a contestant.

"In order to get there, you have to take an online test and then I got called for an audition in Kansas City," said Behrend. "That was late last June. And then they just tell you, 'Well you're on the list.'"

He ended up getting the call from Jeopardy producers in December 2015 and was asked to fly to Los Angeles in February 2016 to appear in a taping of the show -- all on his own dime.

"They don't pay for any of your expenses," Behrend joked. "I think people who want to be on Jeopardy want to be on Jeopardy; they'll do anything to get there."

Behrend said he had a hard time keeping the outcome of his appearance under wraps from friends and family over the last month, eventually losing Monday's (March 28) episode, coming in second place.

His two day earning amassed $18,401.

"I can't complain. Would I have loved to of won more games? Absolutely," said Behrend. "But I got to be a Jeopardy champion and I'll never not be."

The professor stated that he has no interest in being part of Wheel of Fortune, but didn't rule out other trivia game shows.

As for his impression of Jeopardy Host Alex Trebec, Behrend stated that he's just like how he appears on the show.
