Razorbacks Open Spring Practice

Younger Allen ready for chance to lead Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) - With a void at quarterback, Arkansas begins spring practice trying to replace the graduated Brandon Allen. Even though coach Bret Bielema hasn't come out and announced it, odds are younger brother Austin Allen will take over for the Razorbacks.

"It was a lot of fun," Allen said. "Just trying to lead after Brandon, following what he did and seeing how he handled the huddle and everything like that. Just try to take it a step further."

Arkansas had their first practice of the spring on Tuesday and will have another on Thursday in helmets only before putting on full pads this weekend.

Keon Hatcher missed the final 11 games of the 2015 season with a broken foot and he said that even though the Allens are different quarterbacks, the talent level is still there.

"Austin looked good today," Hatcher said. "Working with him during the offseason and stuff like that, he's throwing the ball pretty well. I feel like Austin is a little more laid back. Brandon was more demanding. Stuff like that but they have their pros and cons, both of them, but I think Austin is going to be a really good quarterback for us."
