FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- The University of Arkansas is celebrating 145 years since it was founded in 1871. Current students, alumni and the general public had a chance to get in on the birthday events.
The students at the alumni association have been planning this for a couple months. Last year is actually the first year they threw a party.
The students said they realized that there were a lot of milestones at the U of A that are not celebrated, so they decided to put this birthday party together to celebrate the U of A's founding.
"Celebrating a school's 145th birthday really means a lot, especially to second and third generation razorbacks like myself," said Matt Hansen, a sophomore at the University of Arkansas. "Seeing your siblings, your brother, your sister, even your parents and grandparents graduate from here, and then being able to be a part of their rich history that we celebrate here at the University of Arkansas really means a lot to us."
The University planned to celebrate the U of A's founding with 250 party hats, more than 100 party poppers and cake for 300 people.
