SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) - With the threat of severe weather on Wednesday (March 30) crews are making sure they're prepared for what's possibly ahead.

Both Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley saw disasters last week leaving homes destroyed and families without a place to live. Crews with the American Red Cross are on standby if and when severe weather hits in both areas.

Last week an EF-2 tornado tore through Crawford and Washington County destroying homes in its path. The American Red Cross was there to serve multiple families in need. No matter what hour it is, they will arrive and help the family and see if they need shelter, food, and water.

Preparations for the severe weather started earlier in the week making sure the team of volunteers are all aware of the chance of severe weather. Workers with the organization said they start preparing 48 to 72 hours ahead of the day the storm hits.

Crews work on preparing equipment, supplies, and the team of volunteers. The American Red Cross works with the National Weather Service who tells them the weather reports and updates on what areas have been hit.

With the risk of hail, high wind, and a possibility of tornadoes there's a chance of damage throughout Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley.

The American Red Cross will use local schools, churches, and community centers as shelters if needed.
