FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – Pitching was expected to dominate the series opener between Arkansas and Missouri but instead it was the Razorbacks’ offense that proved to be the difference.

Arkansas fell down three runs early but a four run sixth inning saw the Razorbacks build a four run lead and then had to hang on in the ninth for a 7-6 win in the series opener at Baum Stadium.

Four different players drove in a run for the Razorbacks (19-7, 4-3 SEC) in the sixth inning as Arkansas took a 6-3 lead and then added another run in the seventh after a Rick Nomura RBI single. But things got a little dicey in the ninth inning.

After Josh Alberius and Doug Willey combined to throw seven scoreless, Arkansas turned to Jordan Rodriguez in the ninth. The junior left hander was then touched up for three runs in just 1/3 of an inning, including a two run home run by Brett Bond, that cut the Hogs’ lead to 7-6. Arkansas closer Zach Jackson then issued a walk to the first batter he faced but got a pair of flyouts to end the game.

Clark Eagan drove in a pair of runs while going 3-for-5 at the plate. Cullen Gassaway also had three hits for the Razorbacks in the win.

Arkansas starter Dominic Taccolini failed to throw more than two innings for the third straight time in SEC play as he was chased after allowing three runs in just and inning-plus of work. Alberius got out of a bases loaded jam in the second and threw four innings while giving up just two hits before giving way to Willey. The senior transfer threw three innings and allowed just one hit and faced the minimum in his three innings of work.
