BENTONVILLE (KFSM) — A judge set a trial date for Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck Friday (April 1).
Cradduck’s trial for a felony charge of tampering with public record and a misdemeanor charge of tampering will begin Sept. 21. His defense attorney requested three days for the trial. A pretrial hearing will be held Aug. 19.
Arkansas State Police arrested the sheriff Jan. 19 at the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. He’s accused of asking employees to backdate hiring records for a former Benton County Sheriff’s Officer jailer.
Special prosecutor Jason Barrett was appointed to the case. A special judge was also appointed to try the case after all six Benton County Circuit Court judges recused themselves. The case will go before Judge Randy Wright of the 8th Judicial Circuit North.
Cradduck lost the Republican nomination for sheriff March 1.
