VAN BUREN (KFSM)- The 13th annual River City Rumble kicked-off Friday at the Field of Dreams Complex in Van Buren. The tournament features 16 Arkansas softball teams from conferences ranging from 1A to 7A.

Van Buren puts on the competition every year not only as a school fundraiser, but it also to allow teams of all levels to play against each other. Pointer's Head Coach Andy Williams estimates that over 40 games will be played at the Field of Dreams Complex in the tournament two-day span. The way that the tournament is setup each team is guaranteed at least four-games.

"The 1A teams enjoy it because they play good quality competition ," Williams said. "According to what their coaches tell me they'll never play a game like it until the state tournament, so it prepares them for the better teams they are going to play down the road. The bigger schools enjoy it, all the schools enjoy it because it is good competition no matter who you play. No matter if it's the 1A school or 7A school everybody enjoys it, it's a touch competition."

The 16 high school softball teams participating are Greenwood, Ozark, Rogers, Russellville, Mena, Har-Ber, Sheridan, Dardanelle, Van Buren, Scranton, White Hall, Brookland, Benton, Atkins, Alma, and Bentonville.

Three of the teams competing in the River City Rumble are defending state champions, 1A Scranton, 4A Mena, and 6A Greenwood.
