ROGERS (KFSM) — A Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputy was cited Saturday (April 2) on suspicion of public intoxication, according to a report filed with the Rogers Police Department.

A Rogers officer found Deputy Sergio Vazquez, who was off duty, in a black 2010 Hyundai Genesis near South 13th Place and West Linden Street in the middle of a field just after 9:30 p.m., the report states. Tire tracks appeared to show the car had been used to do donuts until it got stuck in the mud, according to the report.

Vazquez was found alone in the passenger seat with red and glassy eyes and muddy boots and pants, the report states. The deputy told the officer he didn’t know how he got in the middle of a field because he had passed out in the passenger seat, according to the report.

Vazquez said he had tried to call another Rogers officer who was off duty to pick him up, the report states. The responding officer spoke on a cell phone with the officer Vazquez mentioned and found out the two men had gone to a party, but Vazquez left on foot after getting into an argument, according to the report.

Vazquez said he was walking on South Dixieland Road near West New Hope Road when a woman in black car stopped and offered him a ride, so he got in, the report states. The deputy said he told the woman to take him home and then he passed out in the passenger seat, according to the report. Vazquez said he didn’t know who the woman was, where she went or how he ended up in the field, the report states.

Vazquez was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after he admitted that he was drunk and had made a mistake, according to the report.

Officers held the deputy at the Benton County Jail until he was sober and then issued him a citation and a court date, the report states.

According to the report, the car had temporary tags and was registered to a woman. The responding officer also noted there was a different pattern of foot print by the driver’s door than the boots Vazquez was wearing.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Vazquez is no longer employed at the sheriff’s office.
