FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – Bret Bielema said he would wait as long as he had to do determine who the best option was as the Arkansas starting quarterback.

That decision came much sooner than most expected.

Bielema told the team Thursday night that junior Austin Allen would be the team’s starting quarterback, replacing his older brother who graduated after the 2015 season.

“The fifth Arkansas edge is we EARN EVERYTHING,” Bielema said on Twitter. “That is why today I announced to the team that Austin Allen is our starting quarterback.”

Allen went 15-of-18 for 213 yards and three touchdowns in the Razorbacks’ scrimmage last Saturday. Allen attempted just three passes in 2015, completing one for a 35 yard touchdown against UT-Martin.

Allen has appeared in eight games in his career and completed 9-of-19 passes for 188 yards.
