BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) — The Benton County Quorum Court voted to approve the resignation of Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck during a meeting on Friday (April 15).
The Quorum Court voted 15-0 to approve Cradduck’s resignation.
Cradduck submitted a letter of resignation to the Quorum Court Monday (April 11), writing that he would resign as long as several conditions were met.
The conditions included continued pay until an interim sheriff is appointed, and getting a check for the remainder of his pay and health insurance contributions for the rest of the year within 10 days of the interim sheriff’s appointment.
Those stipulations add up to roughly $80,000. On Tuesday, the Quorum Court approved an ordinance that appropriated $80,000 in funds.
The Quorum Court will next meet on April 25 to appoint an interim sheriff.
According to the Benton County Clerk, the interim sheriff would serve until the end of 2016 and an elected sheriff would take over January 1, 2017. Republican candidate Shawn Holloway and Independent candidate Glenn Latham are running for the position in the November election.
Several people have also expressed interest in taking over as interim sheriff, including former sheriff Keith Ferguson, former county judge Bruce Rutherford, and Tim Filbeck, who ran as a Republican for sheriff during the 2016 primary election in March.
Cradduck is facing a felony charge of tampering with public records and misdemeanor charge of tampering in Benton County. His trial is scheduled for Sept. 21.
