FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- The school year is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean you can forget about your teachers. In fact, Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up in May and Fort Smith is celebrating in a special way.

If you're a student in the Fort Smith Public School system, or you were in the past, you can write a card to your favorite teacher during this campaign. How it will work is that you purchase a card for $1, and fill out the information on the back of the card. This includes the teacher's name, what school they teach at and of course the nice note that you leave for them. Afterwards, the Fort Smith Public Schools Foundation will ensure those cards arrive in the teacher's school mailbox.

If you're wanting to write a note to a teacher that you had in the past or that might be retired, you will be responsible for delivering the "Thank You" cards.

This gives an opportunity to thank any teacher that made a difference in your life along the way.

Cards are available at each of the Fort Smith Public Schools and First National Bank Branches at Stonewood, Downtown, Central Mall and Brooken Hill.

You can start picking cards on Monday, April 18 through May 2. The cards will give the teachers a chance to win a gift basket to be given away at each school on Teacher Appreciation Day, Tuesday May 3, 2016. The school with the most entries will win a cash prize.
