GREENWOOD (KFSM) - Several schools in our area are being honored and rewarded by the State of Arkansas because of students successes in the classroom. The Greenwood School District is one of many schools in our area that received thousands of dollars because of the great staff they have on hand and the wonderful students.

This reward comes from the Arkansas School Recognition Program which provides awards to public schools that experience high student performance and high student academic growth. This was shown to a number of schools across the Natural State, including three schools within the Greenwood School District. This includes, Greenwood Junior High, East Hills Middle School, and East Pointe Elementary School. The grand total within all three schools was more than $200,000. According to Beth Fincher, Principal of East Hills Middle School, "We are honored to be receiving this reward three consecutive years."

"Our teachers care so much about these kids and care that the students are successful," said Michael Dean, Principal of East Pointe Elementary School.

The schools received this award based on how well students did during standardized testing in the 2014-2015 school year. Each year during the spring time they take an assessment that quizzes the students in all different subjects depending on their grade level.

Testing will begin for the students again next week. Then those results will come the following year.
