ARKANSAS (KFSM) — Two Arkansas senators have filed an amendment to block funding to a high-voltage transmission line proposal.

Senators Tom Cotton and John Boozman were outspoken against the project, and are attempting to block all federal funds to the Plains and Eastern Clean Line Project.

“The Department of Energy’s decision to move forward with the Clean Line transmission project despite the objections of Arkansans is executive overreach at its worst,” the senators said in a joint statement. “Despite our best efforts to work with the Department of Energy, Secretary Moniz has proven himself unwilling to compromise and we must take action to stop this assault on Arkansas and the rights of private property owners.”

The project received the support of the Department of Energy last month, after DOE secretary stated that his department would participate in the project’s development.

A study done by University of Arkansas showed that the near-700-mile high voltage transmission line from Clean Line Energy Partners LLC would deliver 4,000 megawatts of wind power from the Oklahoma Panhandle region to utilities and customers in Arkansas, Tennessee and other markets in the Mid-South and Southeast areas.
