FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Arkansas Run for the Fallen set up its traveling memorial in Fort Smith on Sunday (April 24). Each spring a team of runners complete a 130 mile run across the state of Arkansas in honor of service members who have died since September 11, 2001.
During their run they stop in local towns and set up a memorial. Each mile is dedicated to a veteran. The memorial consists of rows and rows of flags. In front of each flag is a picture and biography of an Arkansas veteran who fought and died supporting the Global War on Terrorism. According to the website of Arkansas Run for the Fallen, the memorial is also offers support for families of the veterans.
The traveling memorial is set up at Ben Geren Park in Fort Smith. The memorial will stay from April 24 through April 30.
The memorial and run finishes on the steps of the Arkansas State Capitol with a closing ceremony, according to the memorials website.
