FORT SMITH (KFSM)- The UA-Fort Smith Women's golf team faced growing pains this season with a mostly young roster compiled of freshmen and sophomores with the only junior being Anne Stiles.

"We really  just fought our way through the season we had some ups and downs but overall if one of the girls didn't play well some one else would play well so that's good for us."

Annie performed like the veteran of the group earlier this month winning the Lions Classic shooting a 4-over 144 helping the Lady Lions place second in the tournament, making it their best performance of the season.

"Oh it was exciting it was my first college win so I really enjoyed that. Fought hard the second day she shot 69 on the second day so it came all the way down to the last hole, we actually both bogeyed it, but it was good it was really fun."

The Lady Lions did not place high enough in the Heartland Conference to continue in post-season play, but Stiles is already looking ahead to her senior year and plans to help the team go further next season.

"This next season we are really excited for it like I said when one of the girls played poorly you know someone else was there to play well so that means that we have a really strong team so we are actually really excited to be good next year and to compete with some of these other teams because we are in a really competitive conference and we want to move on to regionals."
