FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — A Farmington man was being held at the Washington County Detention Center after Fayetteville police said he choked a driver in a road rage incident Friday (April 29).

Joseph Norton, 34, is facing charges of aggravated assault involving strangulation and reckless driving, jail records show. His bond has not yet been set.

While trying to pass the victim just after 10 a.m. on South Shiloh Drive, Norton side-swiped the back of the car, became enraged and cut off the car by side-swiping it in the front, then blocked the car by coming to a stop at an angle stopping traffic on the road, according to the arrest report.

Norton opened the driver-side door and began to strangle the driver by putting both of his hands around the victim’s neck until bystanders were able to get him to stop, the arrest report states.
