ROGERS (KFSM) – Nearly 200 people gathered at Fast Lanes bowling alley in Rogers Friday (May 6) night, to participate in the “Bowling For Benn” fundraiser.

The fundraiser brought in money for future college tuition for Benn Banks’ two young sons. Banks is battling stage four cancer.

“You never know how many people out there really care until you do something like this,” said Steve Freeman, a donor and participant in the event.

Event organizers said they planned on raising $10,000. However, overwhelming support poured in roughly $20,000.

“It is not for me, it is for my kids,” Banks said. “[The money] is for what happens just in case things don’t go my way. You cannot really express how good something like that feels.”

Donors included local businesses, families, friends, and even strangers.

“I think it is just critical that we do what we can to raise awareness about cancer. But, to also help out a friend in need,” said Russ Daniel, a donor and event attendee.

“Those that know Benn know how special he is, and what a great guy he is,” said Ben Biesenthal, an event attendee.

Many of those who donated said they never thought twice about giving for their friend.

“This was an event Benn would do for any of his friends,” said Jamie Daniel, an event attendee.

Organizers said the event brought together those Banks loves, while also helping his family out.

“Benn has given us so much inspiration through his writing, and his fight. We wanted to give something back to him and his family that can last forever,” said David Latanzio, a co-host for Bowling For Benn.

“Life can be hard sometimes. But, when you have something like this happen, it reminds you that every day can get better,” Banks said.
