Lady Pointers Top Seeded For The First Time

Pointers looking for first ever state title to go along with conference championship

VAN BUREN (KFSM)- Friday the Lady Pointers slugged their way to a 13-3 win against Conway, but that wasn't just another conference win for Van Buren. It not only gave them the No.1 seed in the conference, it also puts them in uncharted waters.

"I don't think we have ever been in the top-seed," said Head Coach Andy Williams. "We've had byes and different things but I don't think we have ever had the top-seed. And Not only are we the top-seed, we are at the top of the bracket seed to where any game we play we are always going to be the home team."

Now they’ve notched a conference title, the Lady Pointer's next mission is to do something they have never been able to do before, make it the championship game and this team feels confident they can do that

"We have grown a lot together as a team," said Senior Ashton Sangster. "We all have just bonded way better this year than any of the past three years we have played so I have a lot of faith in us for state."

Van Buren has made it to the semi-finals the past two season, and they are ready to make a run at getting their program's first-ever state title.

"As long as we keep working," said Senior Jessica Smith. "Stay at this pace, keep hitting, keep fielding, and our offense and defense keep going I mean we have a good shot this year."

Van Buren will play the winner of the first-round game between Southside and Central on May 13th in Bryant, Arkansas.
